Learn to create your own cartoon characters, have them convey emotion, and tell jokes and stories in this fast-paced workshop. No experience necessary. For students in grades five through eight. CARTOONS AND GRAPHIC PERSPECTIVES - Friday, November 16 – 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. – In this all-different class, learn how to make your drawings “pop” off the page! Draw comics that show action and depth. Participants will also learn the fundamentals of animation. No experience necessary. For middle and high school students. Participants should bring a sack lunch and beverage. Snacks provided!
The extensive collections of the Chazen Museum of Art will be used in both classes to show that dynamic, graphic storytelling – cartoons – is an art form that’s at least 3,000 years old.
$89 per student. Advance registration required for each.
Instructor: Madison-based writer and cartoonist Jay Rath, veteran of The Onion, Fantagraphics Comics and MAD magazine; previously taught cartooning at the Chazen Museum of Art, MATC, and Madison’s Hawthorne and Alicia Ashman libraries.
